About Our Hospital

We are an AAHA certified small animal and exotics veterinary hospital. We boast a full in-house lab, laser assisted surgery, and both digital and digital dental radiography. Come visit us today!

Conveniently located just off of Macleod Trail, we are a professional veterinary hospital with many years of experience between our dedicated professional veterinarians. We are fully certified to provide all levels of professional care for dogs, cats, and exotic pets. We believe that healthy pets = happy people.

We are proud to be one of the only Calgary and area veterinary hospitals that is AAHA certified to work with exotic animals. Whether this is your first exotic pet, or you are looking for some reliable advice about husbandry, diet, disease prevention, enrichment, and overall healthcare, we would love to spend some time with you and your feathery, scaly, or furry friend.

On Call Emergency Services

We understand that pets do not get sick at the most convenient times. Sometimes that means that your pet could be sick outside of regular business hours. We always have at least one veterinarian on call at (403) 256-7297.

Born under the beautiful mountain High Tatras, Slovakia, being a Veterinarian was Dr.Eva’s childhood dream. She was raised in the city of Presov with 2 siblings and no yard for a dog; consequently, all of Dr.Eva’s childhood pets were small exotic animals.

In 1992, she was accepted into the University of Veterinary Medicine in Kosice, Slovakia. Throughout Dr.Eva’s studies she nurtured her interest in exotic animal medicine. During the last two years of University, she completed her Masters in toxicology. After graduating in 1998, Dr.Eva began her PhD. in nutrition, while still practicing veterinary medicine in a clinical setting. Dr.Eva moved to Calgary, Canada in 2000 with her husband Dr.Maros. Here she began work at the University of Calgary in genetic & neuroscience research and volunteered at local emergency veterinary clinics where she was later employed with three well-known emergency Veterinary facilities as a veterinarian. Since 2006, Dr.Eva has worked as a locum Veterinarian for many vet clinics and the SPCA in Calgary. Dr.Eva is an active member of the Exotic DVM (a worldwide forum for exotic Veterinarians), ARAV (Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians), AEMV (Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians), AAV (Association of Avian Veterinarians), ABVMA (Alberta Veterinary Medical Association) and CVMA (Canadian Veterinary Medical Association).

In 2007, Dr.Eva’s dream of becoming a mother came true with the birth of her daughter Anna-Maria in 2007 and again in 2011, with the birth of her son – Marcus Dominik. Dr.Eva is passionate about all sports, particularly downhill skiing and yoga. Her family of pets currently includes her African spurred tortoise Speedo, Green conure Buzz and Alexandrian parakeet Kristofa, many of whom were rescued.

Originally from a small town in Slovakia, Dr.Maros grew up surrounded with animals. During his studies at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Kosice, Slovakia he gained a strong interest in honeybee research. As well as honeybees, he developed an interest in dentistry and small animal surgery. Dr.Maros graduated in 1996 from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Kosice, Slovakia. Following graduation, Dr.Maros completed 3 years of a PhD study in honeybee diseases in Slovakia while simultaneously practicing at a veterinary clinic. Dr.Maros then relocated to Finland where he continued to practice Veterinary medicine.

He moved to Calgary, Canada with his wife Dr.Eva in 2000 where he began work in respiratory research at the University of Calgary. In 2003 Dr.Maros began to work as Veterinarian in small practice in Medicine Hat and than as an emergency Veterinarian for large refferal and emergency hospital in Calgary. Since 2006, he has worked as a locum Veterinarian for most veterinaty clinics & SPCA in Calgary and surrounding areas. Dr.Maros has a very strong interest in surgery, small animal dentistry and is actively involved in most dental seminars. Dr.Maros is an active member of AVDS (American Veterinary Dental Society), AbVMA (Alberta Veterinary Medical Association) and CVMA ( Canadian Veterinary Medical Association). Dr.Maros loves all outdoor sport particularly soccer. He currently resides in Calgary with wife Dr.Eva, daughter Anna-Maria, son Marcus Dominik and gang of rescued Jack Russell Terriers named: Maximus (Max), Maruska and Mochi .

Dr. Katherine has been with Dewinton Pet Hospital since 2014. She was born and raised in Calgary, and she has wanted to help animals since she was a young child. At the age of 5, she was quite upset that her kindergarden had not taught her any "vet stuff!” Katherine graduated from the University of Calgary with her B.Sc in Biological Sciences in 2015. She has also since completed her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Kosice, Slovakia. Katherine is now working through processes to become fully licensed in Canada and currently has her provisional licence. She is eager to see all species and has a special interest in ophthalmology. Katherine adores spending time with Copper, her spirited Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.

Born and and raised in Venezuela, Daniela has always had a passion for exotic animals.

She grew up with a mini zoo of pets that included dogs, guinea pigs, turtles, lizards, birds, and fish.

She is currently working on furthering her education at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Kosice, Slovakia, in order to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian.

Daniela joined the DPH team in October 2017 and is enthusiastic about learning and caring for different animal species.

Always eager to learn, Nicole graduated from the University of Calgary with a B.Sc in Natural Sciences (Biology and Chemistry) in 2014.

She enrolled that same year in the Animal Health Technology program at Olds College. Completed the program in 2016 and became a Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT), with the hopes of earning a VTS in Exotic Companion Animal - Clinical Practice. She loves to sing, play volleyball, and watch hockey with her equally spirited Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Sterling. Nicole has been with Dewinton Pet Hospital since working as a summer student back in 2015 in order to help her gain valuable nursing experiencewith both small animal and exotics medicine.

William has always worked in the pet industry, starting out as a sales associate at Petland while in High School. He graduated from the Animal Health Technology program at Olds College in 2015, and joined Dewinton Pet Hospital in 2019 as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT). When not at work, William is an avid builder of models and enjoys golf, movies and video games.

James was born and raised in Red Deer and graduated with his Animal Health Technology degree from Lakeland college in 2020.

James grew up around cats, dogs and cattle but always had an interest in reptiles and amphibians. Growing up, he was often found outside catching frogs and bugs. He still enjoys being outdoors camping or hiking, but also enjoys watching movies and playing video games.

Born and raised in Calgary Alberta, Rebecca has always had a passion for helping all species, with an especially large soft spot for exotics. Before joining our team, Rebecca graduated from the AHT program at Lakeland College in June of 2021. I have always been surrounded by animals. With 2 large dogs, 3 cats and a uromastyx, she is definitely kept on her feet. In her spare time Rebecca is an avid horror movie fan and also enjoys playing various video games, art, and cooking.

Stephannie moved to Calgary in 2007 and received her BFA (bachelor of fine arts degree) at the Alberta College of Art & Design. Stephannie has been volunteering with The Alberta Reptile & Amphibian Society for the past 9 years. She currently lives in Calgary with her husband, two children, & many reptiles..

She then spent a year in Australia where she managed a sea turtle rehabilitation centre, caring for injured and ill sea turtles, orphaned wallabies, echidnas, and sugar gliders. She returned to Calgary in 2017 when she joined the DPH team, and began the distance Animal Health Technology program through Thompson Rivers University.

Michaela then lived in Scotland for two years, before returning to Canada to receive permanent residency and pursue her passion - working with animals of all species. Miska has a lionhead bunny, who keeps her very busy. She also enjoys baking, cooking, hiking, and reading books.
